Two weeks ago Megi and I visited the palace of Dadiani in Zugdidi. We took photos and gathered information about the palace. It was fun and we learnt a lot! Here's some of what we learnt:
Zugdidi museum is one of the richest ones in Georgia. About 50,000 valuable exhibits are kept there, including vivid examples of national and European culture from the Bronze age to the 19th century. Of significance are tools from many ages, including bronze axes and brass bars from ancient Koklkhetia, Rome, Byzantia, Russia, Hungary, and Poland. The museum is also home to a gold Kolkhetian coin, which dates back to 1 B.C.
The garment of the Blessed Virgin, a fragment of St. George’s knee, the hand of St. Mariane and other church relics are kept here.
The museum’s rich library contains thousands of unique books in Georgian and European languages, as well as ancient manuscripts and works of foreign artists.
One of the three masks of Napoleon made by the emperor’s personal doctor in 1833 is kept in the museum.
Also, numerous vivid examples of applied art from many European and Asian countries are represented in the museum’s expositions.
